Days after the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) called off its 37 day protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, it is back in the centre of fresh controversy.
After concluding a 37-day protest at Jantar Mantar, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) faced criticism over viral videos showing members celebrating following Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, which the CJP defended as youthful expression after their demands were met.

While critics questioned whether the celebrations were appropriate after weeks of protests and clashes, the organisation defended the videos, saying they reflected how today’s youth express themselves.
Celebration Videos Go Viral
In the video, one can see CJP spokesperson Saurav Das, Ashutiosh Ranka and other members dancing to music after the protest concluded. The clips, widely shared across social media platforms, carried captions such as “Resignation Party,” suggesting the celebrations were linked to Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation as Union Education Minister.

BJP’s Mahesh Jethmalani Questions the Celebration
Reacting to the viral video. BJP Rajya Sabha MP and senior Supreme Court advocate Mahesh Jethmalani criticised the CJP leadership.
Posting on X, he questioned why the leaders were celebrating after a protest that had witnessed confrontations between demonstrators and police.
Jethmalani also raised questions about the funding of the month-long agitation, asking who had paid for the protesters’ travel, accommodation, food, sound equipment and other logistical arrangements during the movement.
Saurav Das Defends the Videos
On the criticism, Saurav Das said, many people were misunderstanding the culture and style of younger generations.

In a post on X, he argued that Gen Z approaches activism differently from previous generations and that dancing or celebrating does not reduce the seriousness of a movement.
According to Das, young people can protest for long hours, organise campaigns, enjoy music and still remain committed to their cause.
Das also said, “The uncles and aunties can keep complaining. They’ll just have to deal with us!”
Protest Ended After Talks With the Centre
The CJP formally ended its 37-day protest after holding multiple rounds of discussions with the Central government.
The organisation claimed that several of its demands had been accepted, including assurances regarding compensation for families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide and the withdrawal of FIRs against peaceful protesters. It also said the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan marked a significant milestone in the movement.
