A court here on Wednesday cancelled the non-bailable warrants (NBWs) issued against SFI joint secretary Aishe Ghosh in a 2021 case, directing her to appear personally on August 30.

A court cancelled non-bailable warrants against SFI joint secretary Aishe Ghosh regarding a 2021 case, ordering her personal appearance on August 30 after citing unavoidable circumstances.

Judicial Magistrate Vijayshree Rathore took note of an application filed on behalf of Aishe Ghosh stating she could not appear on the last date of hearing due to “unavoidable circumstances”, and seeking cancellation of the NBWs.

The magistrate stayed the NBWs till the next date of hearing, August 30, directing Ghosh to “appear in person” on the date.

The case pertains to an FIR against Ghosh registered at Barakhamba Road police station in 2021 under the erstwhile Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 188 (disobeying order issued by public servant), 447 (criminal trespass) and 34 (common intention).

Earlier in the day, SFI leaders accused Delhi Police of “witch-hunting” after an alleged attempt was made to arrest Ghosh in the 2021 case, saying the police action was part of a broader crackdown on student leaders who participated in the recent youth protests that culminated in the resignation of former Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Rejecting the allegations, police said the visit by the investigating officer was in connection with “an old non-bailable warrant case pursuant to court orders”, and not related to the recent protests.
