The trailer of Ranbir Kapoor and Yash-starrer Ramayana has arrived with a bang. From the very first frame, the clip mpromises a grand cinematic experience packed with spectacular visuals and larger-than-life characters.
The trailer opens with Yash making a striking entry, kicking open what appears to be the doors of the Deva Loka. The scene immediately sets the tone for the epic that follows. Interestingly, the 4.09-minute video seems to tell the stories of Rama and Ravana in parallel, giving equal importance to the two central characters.
The ‘Ramayana’ trailer, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Rama and Yash as Ravana with Sai Pallavi as Sita, offers grand visuals and parallel narratives, highlighting impressive technical aspects and scale ahead of its planned Diwali release.
Ranbir Kapoor is introduced as Lord Rama, while Sai Pallavi plays Sita. We get glimpses of Rama and Sita leaving for exile. On the other hand, Yash’s Ravana is presented as a powerful ruler, with glimpses of the empire that he has built. The sequence showing him addressing a sea of people is surely leave the audience in awe when watching it on-screen.
Yash is undoubtedly one of the biggest highlights of the trailer. His walk, screen presence, body language and dialogue delivery have the required intensity to play Ravana. He has continued his bearded-look from the KGF franchise.
Ranbir, too, looks convincing as Rama, carrying the character with restraint rather than overdoing it. He gets the opportunity to express different emotions.
Sai Pallavi brings the grace and softness expected from Sita.
The supporting cast also gets brief moments. Rakul Preet Singh appears as Shurpanaka, including the scene where Lakshman, played by Ravi Dubey, strikes her on the nose.
Technically, Ramayana looks stunning. The VFX appears polished, while the production design adds to the scale of the world. The background score lifts several sequences and makes the trailer feel even more majestic.
However, the emotional drama does not quite land as strongly as the visuals. The trailer is more successful in creating spectacle than in establishing an emotional connection with the characters.
With Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman handling the music and Kumar Vishwas penning the lyrics, expectations are naturally high. Set for a Diwali release, Ramayana certainly looks like a film meant for the big screen.
