In his first remarks after being taken into custody over his alleged remarks on Trisha, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, said that he was ready to face any consequences.
Speaking from the vehicle in which he was being taken to Thanjavur, he said, “I am not afraid and am ready to face the legal consequences.”
Tamil Nadu Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was arrested in Chennai following alleged double-entendre remarks concerning actor Trisha at a Cauvery rally. He expressed readiness to face legal consequences, denying wrongdoing, while TVK filed a complaint regarding the incident.
Asked whether his arrest was an act of political vendetta, he mocked, “I don’t think they have so much of a brain.” He was arrested from his Chennai residence. However, DMK supporters lay down on the road and staged a protest, preventing the vehicle carrying Udhayanidhi from moving.
Udhayanidhi Stalin further told CNN-News18 that he had done nothing wrong and that his remarks had been misconstrued. “Nothing I have said… I have said nothing about anybody,” Udhayanidhi told CNN-News18.
During a speech at a Cauvery rally, Stalin targeted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay when he was interrupted by members of the crowd chanting, “Trisha, Trisha.” He paused, smiled and made a remark that many interpreted as an indirect reference to actor Trisha.
The actress has been the subject of unverified romance rumours involving Vijay on social media. During the elections, political leaders, including those from the DMK, had also targeted Trisha.
The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) women’s wing formally lodged a complaint at the Thanjavur police station, accusing DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin of making a double-entendre remark about actor Trisha Krishnan. The incident has triggered a sharp political crossfire across the state.
TVK MLA Rhevanth Charan slammed the remark as “disgusting”, accusing the opposition leadership of dragging down the decorum of political discourse.
“Absolutely disgusting. Passing such disgraceful comments against anyone is completely unacceptable. It exposes the mindset, political culture, and declining standards of the Arivalayam clan. Your announced protest collapsed even before it could begin. Now, desperate for attention, you have resorted to cheap provocation and engagement farming. This is precisely why the people of Tamil Nadu rejected you and confined you to the position you are in today. Continue with this arrogance and indecency, and you will soon be erased from public relevance altogether. Even by Arivalayam’s already abysmal standards, this is a new low,” ANI quoted Charan as stating.
Meanwhile, TVK leader Americai Narayanan rejected the vendetta allegations, saying, “Udhayanidhi Stalin has not been arrested for speaking against Chief Minister Vijay or the TVK, but for insulting a woman.”
