Delhi Capitals star opening batter Abishek Porel was arrested after a medical student made allegations of sexual assault on him. Now the case has taken a turn as Calcutta High Court has deferred the matter to 14 September. Porel who is facing sexual assault allegations false promise of marriage has got shock as his friend who is also accused has not arrested yet.
Delhi Capitals batter Abishek Porel was arrested following allegations of sexual assault and false promise of marriage by a medical student; Porel denies the charges, and the Calcutta High Court deferred the hearing to September 14.
Calcutta High Court Defers Abishek Porel Case
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya deferred the hearing of the case after West Bengal government sought time for further steps following cricketer’s arrest. The police informed the court that they have arrested Abishek but they still need to proceed with the investigation involving the other accused as well.
The next hearing of the case will be on 14 September.
Porel Arrested After Medical Student’s Complaint
Abishek Porel was arrested by Mogra police from his residence in Dum Dum, North 24 Parganas after court’s order. He was produced before Chinsurah court that rejected his bail and sent him to three days police custody.
Hooghly (Rural) Superintendent of Police Kunwar Bhushan Singh said, “A case was lodged against him and there was a court order to arrest him. He was arrested late last night. He was produced in court today.”
A medical student filed a complaint alleged that Abishek Porel had sexual relations with her in the false promise of marriage. She also made allegations that Porel assaulted her and criminal intimidated her. However, Porel has denied all the allegations and call them fabricated.
Why His Friend Is Also Under Investigation
Calcutta High Court had earlier ordered police to arrest both Abishek Porel and his friend, another accused in the case. The court also ordered to seizure of all electronic devices linked with accused to stop spreading all photographs and other sensitive material of the complainant.
The case was filed at Mogra Police station under the many provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. However, the allegations are still under investigation and not established in the court. Now all the eyes on next hearing on 14 September.
