On the eve of the 80th Independence Day of India, President Droupadi Murmu has made a nation-wide address where she emphasized India’s security preparedness, economic growth, social welfare, as well as the advancements made in science and technology.
On the eve of India’s 80th Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu highlighted national security achievements like Operation Sindoor, the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, poverty alleviation efforts, progress towards a Naxal-free nation, and India’s global leadership in digital payments.
During her address, the President has lauded the armed forces for their contribution to the protection of the nation while Operation Sindoor showcased the capability of India to launch surgical strikes against terrorist networks.
President Murmu has also highlighted the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, poverty alleviation measures, digital transactions, justice, changes in public examinations, and making India a Naxal-free country.

President Murmu Praises Armed Forces After Operation Sindoor
President Murmu commended personnel of the three armed forces, central armed police forces and police for their dedication to duty.
Referring to Operation Sindoor, she said the military action had demonstrated the capability of India’s armed forces to conduct precision strikes against terror networks.
She also appreciated Indians working to enhance the country’s reputation internationally, including those serving in Indian missions and embassies abroad.

Her remarks came while highlighting the importance of national security and the contribution of security personnel in protecting India’s sovereignty.
Indus Waters Treaty Suspension Was In National Interest: Murmu
The President made reference to the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, saying that it was a firm decision that was in the national interest.
The President especially emphasized that this was crucial for the farmers.
The treaty, which is an agreement between India and Pakistan on the usage of the waters of the Indus river system, was signed in 1960.
The treaty was suspended by India after the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025 where 26 people died.
President Remembers Partition Victims
August 14 also marks Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, and President Murmu used her address to remember those who suffered during the Partition of 1947.
She said millions of people were killed in violence linked to Partition or were forced to leave their homes and become refugees.
She also recalled the enormous challenge faced by the newly independent country in integrating more than 550 princely states into India.

The President said that despite the enormous suffering and displacement, people rebuilt their lives and retained their identity.
Justice Must Reach Every Citizen
President Murmu further emphasized the significance of justice for everyone without any delay. According to her, everyone including citizens belonging to marginalized groups must get justice based on equality and with dignity.
She stressed that all those involved in the justice system must make sure that a person is able to gain justice despite his/her lack of financial resources.
President Murmu also highlighted the rapid and inclusive development of the last decade and the attempts made to strike a balance between the cultural legacy of India and its development.
25 Crore People Lifted Out Of Poverty
One of the key achievements highlighted by President Murmu was India’s progress in poverty reduction.
She said more than 25 crore people had been lifted out of poverty over the past decade through various inclusive development initiatives.
She also referred to the government’s free ration programme, which provides food security to more than 80 crore beneficiaries.
The President presented these measures as part of India’s broader effort to ensure that economic growth reaches people across different sections of society.
India Leads In Real-Time Digital Payments
President Murmu also highlighted India’s digital transformation.
She said India accounts for more than half of the world’s real-time digital transactions, reflecting the rapid expansion of digital payments in the country.
She also said the Indian economy is projected to grow at more than twice the average global growth rate despite international conflicts and instability.
Digital infrastructure, she suggested, has become an important part of India’s economic development and everyday life.
India Moving Towards A Naxal-Free Future
The President also described progress towards making India Naxal-free as an important national achievement.
She referred to development and greater cultural participation in areas such as Bastar, where the government has been focusing on improving connectivity, infrastructure and opportunities alongside security operations.
Her remarks reflected the government’s approach of combining security measures with development in areas affected by Left-Wing Extremism.
Focus On Fairness In Government Examinations
President Murmu also addressed concerns among young people regarding competitive and public examinations.
She said comprehensive steps were being taken to reform public examinations, prevent unfair practices and improve transparency.
The issue has remained important for millions of young Indians preparing for government recruitment and other competitive examinations.
The President stressed the need for systems that provide young people with a fair and transparent opportunity to compete.
Young Indians Driving India’s Space Ambitions
The President also highlighted India’s achievements in space technology and the contribution of young scientists.
She referred to a recent successful rocket launch led by a young team whose average age was around 28 years.
According to Murmu, the achievement reflects the growing role of India’s youth in science, technology and innovation.
She presented this as an example of how young Indians are increasingly contributing to the country’s technological ambitions.
