Iran has offered a bounty to those who manage to capture or kill a US military personnel and bring them before the authorities, says the state-run media of Iran.

Iran’s Army commander Amir Hatami announced a $30,000 bounty for capturing or killing US military personnel, with women receiving double the reward, intended for those wishing to finance Iran’s war efforts amidst ongoing US tensions.
Amir Hatami, the commander-in-chief of the Iranian Army, announced that the value of the bounty is to be $30,000, or 5 billion Iranian tomans. Women will get two times more money if they accomplish the task.
The declaration comes at a time when Iran and the US are still at odds, while the Strait of Hormuz continues to be the main problem in achieving a compromise solution.
Iran Announces Reward For US Military Personnel
Iran’s official news agency IRNA says that Hatami stated that the offer was made after having received many applications from individuals who wanted to help in the financing of Iran’s war effort.
According to the announcement, an individual who kidnaps an American military personnel and turns him or her over to Iran will be paid the offered reward. The same reward will be provided for an individual who murders an American military personnel.
No location was specified by Hatami as to where the event may take place.
No large US military ground force has also been deployed within Iran since the start of the conflict. An American rescue operation had previously been carried out after an American plane had been shot down.
Women Offered Twice The Amount
Hatami separately announced a higher reward for women.
He said an Iranian woman who captures a US military personnel and hands them over would receive double the standard bounty.
The announcement adds another unusual element to the ongoing confrontation between the two countries.
Why The Strait Of Hormuz Matters
The Strait of Hormuz continues to be one of the biggest issues in the confrontation between Iran and the US.
The narrow waterway connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and is one of the world’s most important routes for energy shipments.
Any prolonged disruption in the strait can affect oil and gas supplies, shipping costs and energy prices across international markets.
The status of the waterway has therefore become closely linked to diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region.
How The US-Iran Conflict Escalated
The war started on February 28, as attacks against Iranian targets were initiated by the United States and Israel, as described in the article.
Iran retaliated with attacks against Israeli and American military forces stationed in other countries.
The war then progressed to alternating phases of war, ceasefire, and peace negotiations.
However, disagreements regarding security, military and the Strait of Hormuz have impeded progress toward finding an amicable resolution.
Commercial Shipping Also Caught In The Conflict
The conflict has had consequences beyond military targets.
Commercial shipping has faced disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz, while attacks involving Yemen’s Houthi rebels have also affected shipping routes in and around the Red Sea.
The resulting uncertainty has increased concerns about maritime security, energy supplies and the cost of transporting goods.
