There is seen a sudden surge in crime in the National Capital with another murder of a 42 year old property dealer who was shot dead outside a gym in Delhi’s Narela on Thursday morning, with police investigating a possible gang rivalry or extortion angle behind the killing.

Delhi property dealer Pramod Dahiya, 42, was shot dead outside a Narela gym on Thursday morning; police are investigating possible gang rivalry or extortion motives and examining CCTV footage.
The victim has been identified as Pramod Dahiya, a resident of Sonipat in Haryana.
The shooting took place early in the morning when Dahiya had reportedly gone to the gym with his brother. The attackers fled after opening fire, leaving him with multiple bullet injuries.
Property Dealer Shot Multiple Times
According to Delhi Police, they received a PCR call about the shooting at around 7:15 am.
When officers reached the spot, Dahiya was found dead. Police said he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Around 15 empty cartridges were recovered from the location, indicating that several rounds had been fired during the attack.
The body has been sent for a postmortem examination.
Brother Says Attack Happened Near Gym
Dahiya’s brother, Pawan Kumar, was reportedly with him when the shooting took place. According to his account, the brothers had reached the area near The Gym at around 6:50 am when two unidentified men opened fire at them.
The attackers then reportedly escaped on a motorcycle along with another person who was allegedly involved in the attack. Police have registered an FIR against unidentified accused at Narela Police Station.
CCTV Footage Being Examined
Investigators are now examining CCTV cameras installed in and around the area to reconstruct the attack and identify the shooters.
Delhi Police said four teams comprising Special Staff and local police personnel have been formed to work on CCTV analysis and local intelligence. The teams are also attempting to establish the identities of the attackers and determine their individual roles in the crime.
Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest those responsible.
Gang Rivalry Or Extortion Angle Under Probe
Some of the possible motives for this crime are under investigation.
According to police sources, there is an investigation as to whether the crime was an act of gang rivalry or extortion.
For now, however, no motive or culprit has been identified.
The family of the deceased claims that they did not know of any dispute involving Dahiya.
Family Questions Police Response
Dahiya’s relatives have also raised questions about the police response time.
One relative claimed that the police station was only around 300 metres from the shooting location, yet officers allegedly took a long time to reach the scene.
Police have not, however, publicly confirmed the family’s allegation regarding the response time.
Brother Demands Strict Action
Dahiya’s brother is seeking a tough approach against all those implicated in the murder.
In his statement made right after the murder, he asked for strict punishment for those who were charged with the crime.
They are also appealing emotionally for justice, claiming that just arresting those guilty was not sufficient enough but the need for their maximum punishment was imperative.
This reaction is a clear reflection of their anger and grief.
