Tamil Nadu CM C Joseph Vijay recently visited Mettur to meet focus on water and agriculture, but during the visit he met with an elderly woman and that moment went viral on social media. After completing his official visit, Vijay while travelling towards airport stopped at a roadside farm and spend around 15 minutes interacting with locals.
Tamil Nadu CM C Joseph Vijay visited Mettur for dam inspections and water release, unexpectedly stopping at a farm to gift his Christian Dior sunglasses to an elderly local named Chellam, an interaction that went viral on social media.
Interestingly, during his visit he gifted his Christian Dior sunglasses to an elderly woman named Chellam.
Vijay’s Surprise Stop At Farm
Vijay visited Salem district to inspect Mettur hydroelectric power station and open the sluice gates of the Stanley Reservoir. While returning from Reservoir, he stopped and approached a group of elderly women working in a field.
Chellam came forward and held Vijay’s hand and walked with him around the garden. Vijay asked about her name and her health before removing his sunglasses and giving them to her.
“I was surprised when he came and stood next to me. I told him how happy I was to see him, and he gifted me these sunglasses,” Chellam told PTI.
‘He Looked Just Like He Does In His Movies’
The meeting had a special significance for Chellam because of Vijay’s long association with cinema.
“He looked just like he does in his movies,” she said.
“I was so happy I told him I would defend him if anyone ever tried to harm him,” she added.
Chellam also told that Vijay asked her about if she had eaten. “I told him I hadn’t, because I was waiting to see him first,” she said. Later Vijay told her that he had already eaten and asked the woman to have food.
Why Vijay Was In Mettur
The chief minister’s visit came as Tamil Nadu began releasing Cauvery water from Mettur Dam for Samba cultivation and drinking-water requirements. The customary June 12 opening was delayed because of inadequate inflows.
On Tuesday, the reservoir stood at 91.56 feet, with 54.452 TMC in storage and an inflow of 10,857 cusecs. The government said water release would be monitored according to availability and irrigation needs.
