Apple is entering a new era under the leadership of John Ternus, longtime hardware engineer who has been promoted to chief executive of the company. He arrives at a critical juncture for Apple, with the iPhone 18 generation and the company’s highly anticipated first foldable iPhone.
The foldable device has been dubbed as Apple Duo. This will be Apple’s biggest product category change in years and could usher in a brand-new product category for the company.
Apple’s new CEO, John Ternus, a veteran hardware engineer who joined in 2001, now leads the company at a critical juncture, overseeing upcoming products like the iPhone 18 generation and the highly anticipated foldable Apple Duo.
For Ternus, the timing is right for a new chapter in his life, as the new CEO has spent more than two decades working on Apple’s hardware in his own right, transitioning from chief operating officer to chief executive is a remarkable twist for the veteran engineer.

Who is John Ternus?
Born on 19th May 1975, Ternus graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1997, after which he worked as an engineer at Virtual Research Systems before joining Apple in 2001. At Apple, he started working on Mac hardware and displays before moving on to more senior roles and eventually overseeing hardware engineering for several major products including iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watch, AirPods and Apple Vision Pro. He became senior vice-president of hardware engineering at Apple in 2021, after Dan Riccio vacated the post.
That makes the iPhone 18 era a particularly pivotal period for Ternus, who would now be responsible not only for the existing product suite but also navigating a major reorganization of the iPhone business at the company.
John Ternus’ Net Worth
Apple CEO John Ternus reportedly has a Net Worth around $75 million, which he has accumulated over his long career at Apple, including his regular salary and bonuses, as well as stock compensation.
His wealth is set to rise dramatically now that he takes on the CEO position at Apple, and especially if his compensation package includes generous equity grants.
Tim Cook, for instance, was awarded with roughly $74.6 million in total compensation last year, including his base salary and stock awards. Cook’s personal fortune has been estimated by Forbes at nearly $3 billion, most of which would have come in the form of Apple shares accumulated over his tenure at the company.
