Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping for bilateral talks on Saturday, 12 September on the occasion of BRICS summit in New Delhi. 1. Border Peace Remains Essential
PM Modi mentioned that peace and tranquillity in the border area is very important to continue developments of China-India relations. He also suggested both the sides to follow existing agreements and understandings on the border issues.
2. Commitment To Resolve Boundary Question
Both the leaders made sure their commitment to find a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to the border issue, keeping long term interest of both the countries.
3. ‘Differences Should Not Become Disputes’
PM Modi and President Xi also welcomed the progress in bilateral ties since their last meeting in Tianjin in August 2025. They both agreed that both countries should make a strategic and long-term approach to ensure that “differences should not become disputes.”

PM Modi said India-China relations should be focused on three principles, mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest.

PM Modi and President Xi also agreed to expand common ground on regional and global issues and cooperate in addressing the shared challenges. PM Modi also appreciated China’s support for India’s BRICS chairship and its helpful contribution to 2026 summit.
