The Domestic LPG consumers will have to complete their Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA), if they want to get subsidised on refill gas at regulated selling price from 1 October 2026. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced the rule on late Saturday.

Domestic LPG consumers must complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication by October 1, 2026, to receive subsidized refills; failure to do so will require payment at the market price, according to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Currently, there are 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers in the country and according to the ministry around 89.90 percent people have already completed their Aadhaar authentication process.

LPG Subsidy Rule From 1 October

The consumers who have already completed their BAA don’t need to take any further action. They can continue booking their LPG cylinders and receive refills as usual.

However, the consumers who haven’t completed the authentication will have to complete the process if they want to get subsidised refills at the regulated retail price.

The government has made it clear that the authentic process is being made necessary to make sure the LPG subsidies reach genuine and eligible consumers.

How To Complete Aadhaar Authentication

Consumers have several options to complete the process. The LPG delivery person can carry out the biometric authentication through the Oil Marketing Company (OMC) mobile application while delivering the cylinder.

Consumers can also visit their LPG distributor’s office to complete the process.

Those who want to complete it themselves can use their respective company’s mobile application. Indane customers can use the IndianOil ONE app, Bharatgas customers can use the HelloBPCL app, while HP Gas customers can use the HP PAY app.

Tutorial videos explaining the self e-KYC process are also available on the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) portal.

What If Consumers Do Not Complete BAA?

Consumers who are unwilling or unable to complete the biometric authentication can still receive LPG cylinders. However, they will have to register their choice through the OMC’s digital platforms, including consumer portals, mobile apps, WhatsApp chatbots and IVRS.

Such consumers will not receive the subsidy and will have to pay the applicable market price for 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to local availability.

Why Is Aadhaar Authentication Required?

The ministry said the move is intended to ensure that subsidised LPG reaches genuine consumers. It will also help prevent duplicate or ineligible connections and reduce the diversion of domestic LPG for commercial and industrial use.

The ministry said the implicit subsidy on a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder was around ₹210 in September, compared with ₹721 in June. The government is providing ₹30,000 crore to oil marketing companies during FY 2025-26 and FY 2026-27 to help keep domestic LPG affordable.

The deadline for authentication was initially June 30 but was extended several times. The final earlier deadline was September 14. From October 1, BAA will be mandatory for consumers seeking subsidised LPG refills.
