Former Chief Minister of West Bengal and TMC Chief – Mamata Banerjee was attacked in her car by an unidentified people during a visit to North 24 Parganas district on Sunday. According to her claim, bricks and stones were thrown at her vehicle and said the attack could have killed her.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s car faced an attack with stones and mud by unidentified individuals in Halisahar, North 24 Parganas, during her visit to meet the family of Birju Keot, allegedly deceased in police custody; Banerjee stated the assault was potentially fatal.
The incident took place when Banerjee was travelling to meet the family of a TMC worker who allegedly died in police custody.
What Happened During Mamata Banerjee’s Visit?
According to Mamata didi, the incident took place in Halisahar, when she was on her way to the residence of Birju Keot, the husband of a former TMC councillor who allegedly dies while in police custody. As her convoy passed through the area, a group of protesters surrounded her vehicle. They allegedly smeared mud on the car, threw shoes and water bottles, and raised slogans against the TMC leader.

‘I Could Have Died,’ Says Mamata Banerjee
Speaking to the media after the incident Banerjee claimed that the attack was fatal and could have caused serious injuries or even death. She alleged that if the windows of her vehicle had not been closed, the stones could have struck her on the head.
Banerjee also criticised the police, alleging that security personnel failed to protect her despite the attack taking place in their presence.
Several senior TMC leaders who accompanied Banerjee also condemned the incident.
Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee accused the state administration of failing to ensure adequate security, while Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen also expressed concern over the incident.

BJP Condemns the Incident, Denies Involvement
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned the alleged attack on Mamata Banerjee but denied any involvement in the incident. State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said the party had no connection with the violence and called for action against those responsible.
Abhishek Banerjee Raises Questions
TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee also criticised the police over the incident involving Birju Keot.
He alleged that Keot had been taken into custody despite his name not appearing in the FIR and questioned the functioning of the law enforcement system.

According to Abhishek Banerjee, if a person dies after being taken into custody under such circumstances, it raises serious concerns about the rule of law.
Why Was Mamata Banerjee in Halisahar?
Banerjee had travelled to North 24 Parganas to meet the family of Birju Keot, who allegedly died in police custody.
Keot, the husband of former Kanchrapara municipal councillor Jenny Sharma, had been arrested in an extortion case and remanded to police custody. His family has alleged that he was tortured while in custody and later died due to the assault.
