A case involving the alleged harassment and misbehaviour of a woman in Bihar’s Jamui district has come to light after a video of the incident surfaced on social media. Police said the video went viral on Monday morning, following which they identified the woman and recorded her statement.
An FIR has been registered in Bihar’s Jamui district following a viral video of alleged harassment of a woman on September 19. Police identified the victim, detained three suspects appearing to be minors, and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident.
Jamui Superintendent of Police Vishwajit Dayal said an FIR has now been registered and an investigation is underway.
Police Trace Woman Through Viral Video
According to the Jamui SP, police first came across the video after it circulated on social media. Investigators used the footage to identify the woman shown in the video.
Her statement was recorded on Monday, following which an FIR was registered. Police then located the suspected place of occurrence and reconstructed the sequence of events to identify those allegedly involved.
“We identified the victim on the basis of the video. Her statement was recorded today and an FIR was registered. After locating the place of occurrence, the crime scene was reconstructed and the accused visible in the video were identified,” SP Vishwajit Dayal said.

Police have also started the process of removing the video from social media platforms.
Three People Detained, Five Identified
Police have detained three people in connection with the case so far.
The three detained individuals are from Marua village and are believed to be from the same area where the incident allegedly took place. Police said further arrests are being pursued as the investigation progresses.
The SP said five people have been identified so far, while efforts are continuing to establish the identities of others seen in the video.
Police said the three people currently in custody appear to be between 14 and 17 years old based on their appearance. However, their exact ages have not yet been established because relevant documents have not been recovered or seized so far.
Their legal status will therefore depend on verification of their age and the findings of the investigation.
Incident Reportedly Took Place On September 19
According to the police, the incident took place at around 7 pm on September 19.
The woman had reportedly gone with a friend towards the Mardwa and Pratapur areas for a photoshoot. While they were passing through the area, the group allegedly approached them and engaged in harassment and inappropriate behaviour.
The incident was subsequently recorded on video and circulated on social media.
Police are now examining the footage along with the woman’s statement and other available evidence to establish exactly what happened.
SIT Formed To Investigate Case
The Jamui Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case and identify all those allegedly involved.
The team is also working to establish the identities of people visible in the video and determine their individual roles in the incident.
Police have simultaneously initiated the process of taking down the video from social media platforms.
The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are expected after the identities and roles of the remaining suspects are verified.
The incident is particularly disturbing because it has been reported from a constituency represented by a woman legislator, BJP’s Shreyasi Singh. While political representation by itself cannot prevent crimes, an incident involving the alleged harassment and humiliation of a woman raises important questions about women’s safety, policing and the need for swift action on the ground.
