In Assam’s Hailakandi district, a 15-year-old girl was found brutally murdered in her home on Saturday night; family alleges sexual assault before death, with police awaiting autopsy confirmation amid local protests.
The victim’s family has alleged that she was raped before being murdered, though police have said the allegations will be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination.
Girl Found Dead After Family Returned Home
Officials stated that the incident took place in Aloichora area under the Katlichera Police Station limits on Saturday night. The teen had accompanied her family to a feast at a relative’s house nearby but following an argument with one of her cousin she reportedly returned home.
When the family returned later that night, they found her lying on the floor of the house in a severely injured condition. They immediately alerted the police.
The police sources said that the victim’s head and face were smashed and a rod was also inserted into her private parts.
Family Alleges Sexual Assault Before Murder
The victim’s family has alleged that the teenager was sexually assaulted before being killed.
Police said they are investigating all possible angles but stressed that the allegation of rape can only be confirmed after the autopsy report is received.
Residents Stage Protest, Demand Justice
The incident has triggered anger among local residents.
Following the discovery of the girl’s body, protesters blocked National Highway 6, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible and the harshest possible punishment for the accused.
The demonstration continued for several hours as residents called for a speedy investigation and justice for the victim.
Police said the post-mortem examination will help establish the exact cause of death and determine whether sexual assault took place.
