The death of 20-year-old engineering student in Telangana presumed to be suicide has taken a new turn after police alleged that she was forced to take pesticide. This was planted to make her death look like a suicide.
Telangana police allege lecturer Naveen Kumar forced student Thandra Akshitarani to consume pesticide and write a false suicide note blaming Ravi Kumar before her death on Sep 13, leading to the arrest of Kumar and Ravi Kumar on Sep 20.
A 20-year-old girl Thandra Akshitarani was pursuing a degree in mining engineering after completing his diploma. She took pesticide on 12 September and was later taken to government hospital in Godavarikhani. Although she died during the treatment in the hospital.
Police later started questioning the circumstances around her death and led to found a evidence that allegedly pointed towards a planned crime.
Lecturer Allegedly Targeted Student Over Another Man
According to police, Akshitarani knew an outsourced 28-year-old lecturer, Naveen Kumar at Singareni Collieries Polytechnic in Naspur, from the time she pursuing her diploma. However, later their relationship turned deteriorated after she moved to Hyderabad for engineering college.
She then met Ravi Kumar a 35-year-old Singareni overman while doing an apprenticeship at a Singareni mine. Police says that Naveen was not happy with Akshitarani distanced herself from Naveen to get close to Ravi Kumar.
“Naveen could not tolerate Akshitarani distancing herself from him and getting close to Ravi Kumar. He developed a grudge against the two of them,” Peddapalli Deputy Commissioner of Police B Ram Reddy said.
Police Say Suicide Note Was Part Of The Plan
Investigators alleged that Naveen intercepted Akshitarani near the FCI crossroads on September 12 while she was returning home. He allegedly took her in his car and forced her to write a note accusing Ravi Kumar of sexual assault.
Police further alleged that Naveen forced Akshitarani to consume pesticide and delayed taking her for medical treatment. He later allegedly used her phone to contact her father, apparently attempting to convince the family that she had consumed the pesticide herself.
Akshitarani was eventually taken to the Godavarikhani government hospital, where she died on September 13.
CCTV Footage Helps Police Trace The Alleged Crime
Police examined CCTV footage, call logs, call recordings and other technical evidence while investigating the circumstances surrounding Akshitarani’s death.
The evidence helped investigators reconstruct the events and identify Naveen as the main accused, police said. Naveen Kumar and Ravi Kumar were arrested on September 20. A car and mobile phones were also seized.
Police are conducting a separate investigation into Akshitarani’s allegations of a forced physical relationship involving Ravi Kumar. His wife has rejected the allegations, saying he was wrongly implicated and claiming that an internal Singareni inquiry had cleared him.
The investigation into the case is continuing.
