Heavy rain is expected to continue across Delhi-NCR on Friday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert for Delhi, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. Noida and Gurugram remain under a yellow alert, with thunderstorms and lightning also likely in parts of the region.

The forecast comes a day after persistent rain brought traffic to a standstill, flooded roads and disrupted normal life across several parts of the NCR.

Delhi-NCR faces continued heavy rain on Friday, with IMD issuing orange alerts for Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad, and yellow for Noida and Gurugram; Ghaziabad schools are closed, but Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Faridabad educational institutions remain open, and no widespread work-from-home advisory is issued for offices.

Delhi-NCR Rain Today Are Schools Colleges and Offices Open Check the Latest Update

As the wet weather continues, many parents, students and office-goers are wondering whether schools, colleges and workplaces will remain open today.

Are schools closed today?

At present, Ghaziabad is the only district to declare a holiday.

The district administration has announced that all schools, from nursery to Class 12, will remain closed on Friday in view of the heavy rainfall.

There is no holiday for schools or colleges in Delhi, Noida (Gautam Buddh Nagar), Gurugram or Faridabad. Educational institutions in these districts are expected to remain open unless the respective administrations issue fresh orders.

Parents and students are advised to keep checking official school websites, WhatsApp groups and SMS alerts for any last-minute announcements.

Are offices open?

So far, no work-from-home advisory has been issued for either government or private offices across Delhi-NCR.

Employees should, however, stay in touch with their employers, as individual organisations may issue their own advisories if weather conditions worsen during the day.

Thursday’s rain caused widespread disruption

Heavy rain on Thursday left several parts of Noida and Ghaziabad waterlogged, triggering long traffic jams and slowing movement across the cities.

In a tragic incident, a three-year-old girl died after she was swept into a water-filled drain outside her home in Sarvodaya Colony under Vijay Nagar police station limits in Ghaziabad, according to PTI.

Noida also bore the brunt of the downpour. Several neighbourhoods reported knee-deep water, vehicles broke down on flooded roads and commuters remained stuck in traffic for hours.

Rainwater entered the transport department office in Sector 33, disrupting work. Similar flooding was also reported at the Civil Lines police station and the Mahila Thana in Prayagraj.

IMD forecasts more rain

The IMD has warned that heavy rain is likely to continue, increasing the chances of waterlogging, localised flooding, poor visibility and traffic disruptions across parts of Delhi-NCR.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected in several areas. The weather department has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from waterlogged stretches and exercise caution while commuting.
