Six people were arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) during searches at multiple locations in Assam’s Barpeta district, officials said on Tuesday.

The NIA arrested six individuals in Assam’s Barpeta district on suspicion of involvement in ‘jihadi’ activities and radicalizing youth for Islamic fundamentalist organizations, uncovering alleged cross-border links to the Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), an offshoot of JMB.
The agency is investigating their alleged involvement in ‘jihadi’ activities and attempts to radicalise youth for induction into Islamic fundamentalist organisations.
Searches Across Three Police Areas
The NIA launched its operation on Monday night across areas falling under Howly, Barpeta Road and Sorbhog police stations. Three of the accused were arrested from Sorbhog, while two were held in Barpeta Road and one in Howly.
Six People Arrested In Raid
Those arrested have been identified as Faruk Abdullah, Zakir Hussain and Chandbar Ali from Sorbhog, Mustafizur Rahman from Barpeta Road, Yakub Ali from Nishuka and Rakibul Islam from Jashihatipara village of Howly.
The central agency seized several documents and electronic devices, including a laptop and mobile phones, from the arrested persons, officials said.
Alleged Links With Banned Group
These people allegedly have cross-border links with the Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), an offshoot of the banned Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Mustafizur Rahman, owner of a clothing store, was arrested in March by the Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) and released on bail three months later. NIA personnel picked him up from his residence.
