Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday inaugurated the Dharavi Experience Centre, offering residents a first-hand look at the proposed redevelopment of Dharavi being undertaken through the Maharashtra government’s Dharavi Redevelopment Project, with the Adani Group-linked Adani Navbharat Developers set to execute the project.

The inauguration took place on Gandhi Jayanti, marking the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. On the occasion, Fadnavis also unveiled an anthem dedicated to Dharavi and released a coffee table book celebrating the neighbourhood, its history, businesses and entrepreneurial activity. Dharavi is home to more than one million residents.
The Dharavi Experience Centre, unveiled by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, presents life-size housing models, a 3D walkthrough, and displays for proposed infrastructure under the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, including a Multimodal Transport Hub, river rejuvenation, and green spaces.
Spread across 22,500 square feet, the Dharavi Experience Centre features life-size models of proposed homes, digital displays, interactive exhibits and a detailed 3D walkthrough of the planned township. Visitors can explore how housing, workplaces, transport, public amenities and open spaces are proposed to come together as part of the redevelopment.
A key attraction at the centre is the life-size housing section, where visitors can walk through both unfurnished and furnished 350-square-foot and 500-square-foot apartments. The models provide residents with an understanding of the proposed layouts and how the spaces could be used.
The redevelopment plan aims to retain Dharavi’s close connection between homes and livelihoods while providing schools, healthcare facilities, places of worship, public transport, parks and other social infrastructure. The proposed plan also includes a Multimodal Transport Hub designed to integrate different modes of transport and improve connectivity for residents and other Mumbaikars.
Focus On Mithi River Rejuvenation And Green Spaces
The Experience Centre also highlights the environmental aspects of the proposed redevelopment, including the rejuvenation of the Mithi River, around 40,000 trees across Dharavi and a 3.3-kilometre public riverfront. The plan also provides for parks and open spaces to increase greenery and create additional public areas within the neighbourhood.
Residents To Get Information On Rehabilitation
Digital and assisted channels at the centre provide information on surveys, eligibility, documentation and rehabilitation. These facilities are intended to help residents understand the provisions and processes that will shape their homes and livelihoods under the redevelopment programme.
The Dharavi Redevelopment Project is a Maharashtra government project, while its execution is to be undertaken by Adani Navbharat Developers Private Limited, with the Dharavi Redevelopment Project/Slum Rehabilitation Authority as the joint-venture partner.
