India’s Women hockey team has ended 44 years drought after beating China by 1-0 in Asian Games final to win gold medal. This nail biting thriller not just got India another gold medal after 1982 but also secured a direct entry for Indian team for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

India’s women’s hockey team captured the Asian Games gold medal by beating China 1-0, ending a 44-year drought since 1982 and securing direct qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Lalremsiami Delivers The Winning Blow
The decisive moment came early in the match when Lalremsiami made the goal in the 10th minute. She produced a superb tomahawk that gave India lead and put China under pressure.
India knew the one-goal advantage would not be enough to relax against a strong Chinese side. China, the silver medallists from the Paris Olympics, responded by taking control of long periods of the match and constantly tested the Indian defence.

Savita Punia Keeps China Out
With China pushing for an equaliser, India’s defensive unit faced a difficult challenge. Veteran goalkeeper Savita Punia then produced one of the most important moments of the final by stopping a penalty stroke.
That save allowed India to retain their lead as the Chinese attack continued. The Indian defenders also made crucial blocks and clearances during the closing stages, refusing to give China the opening it needed.
India eventually saw out the match without conceding, completing a memorable 1-0 victory.
44 Years After India’s First Gold
The triumph has special significance because India had won the women’s hockey gold at the Asian Games only once before, in 1982. That tournament marked the debut of women’s hockey at the continental event.
India came close to ending the wait on two later occasions. They won silver in 1998 after losing the final to South Korea and finished runners-up again in 2018, when Japan defeated them.
The latest victory over China has now ended that long wait. It also means India have earned an automatic place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics through their Asian Games title.
Japan completed the podium by beating South Korea 4-2 in a shoot-out to claim the bronze medal.
