Cool winds, cloudy skies engulfed Delhi NCR in the early morning of October 10. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted rain, thunderstorms and strong winds in parts of the region on October 10 and 11. Wind speeds could reach 50 kmph in some areas, while lightning and dust may also accompany the changing weather.

The IMD forecasted rain, thunderstorms, and winds up to 50 kmph in Delhi NCR on October 10-11 due to a western disturbance and cyclonic circulation. Delhi’s AQI was moderate (173) as DPCC issued show-cause notices for construction dust violations, with CM Rekha Gupta emphasizing uniform pollution rule enforcement.

The weather shift is linked to a western disturbance over northern Pakistan and adjoining areas, along with an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Haryana and neighbouring north-west Uttar Pradesh. These weather systems are expected to influence conditions across Delhi and nearby regions.

Delhi-NCR Weather Forecast: Rain And Strong Winds Today And Tomorrow

As per the forecast issued by IMD, there might be thunderstorms, lightning and rain in some parts of Delhi NCR on October 10 and 10. Strong winds may blow at a speed of around 50 kmph in some places.

The weather situation is caused due to the influence of western disturbance and cyclonic circulation in nearby regions. These weather events may result in unstable weather conditions including cloudy sky, rain and windy weather.

Rainfall intensity may differ in Delhi and surrounding districts. People are advised to keep themselves updated about weather through the information provided by IMD in case of thunderstorms during commuting.

Windy weather may stir up dust on roads and construction sites which may reduce visibility and cause irritation for sensitive individuals.

Delhi AQI Today: Air Quality Remains In Moderate Category

Despite the expected change in weather, Delhi’s air quality was recorded in the moderate category on Friday.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 173 at 9:30 am. An AQI between 101 and 200 falls in the moderate category.
The minimum temperatures recorded at different weather stations were also above normal.

  • Safdarjung: 25.2°C, 4.2°C above normal
  • Lodhi Road: 24.2°C, 4.2°C above normal
  • Ayanagar: 24.7°C, 3.8°C above normal
  • Ridge: 23.8°C
  • Palam: 22.7°C

The readings indicate that early-morning temperatures remained relatively high at several locations.

Rain and strong winds may temporarily change local pollution levels, but dust raised by gusty winds can also affect air quality. The actual impact will depend on rainfall, wind direction and local emission sources.

DPCC Issues Show-Cause Notices Over Construction Dust

With Delhi continuing to keep tabs on pollution levels, the DPCC has been carrying out inspections at construction sites run by government bodies as well as private firms.

The inspections are being carried out both at regular intervals as well as unscheduled times to determine whether or not the construction projects have been implementing the recommended dust control measures. Notices to explain the reasons behind the violations have been sent to some construction project agencies by officials. Construction projects linked to the government are also under inspection.

Construction dust is an issue since it increases the amount of particulate matter in the atmosphere, especially when construction materials, soil and debris are improperly managed.

CM Rekha Gupta Says Pollution Rules Must Be Followed

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Friday that pollution-control requirements must be enforced across all construction projects.

She stressed that government departments, contractors, construction agencies and private companies would be expected to follow the same rules. According to her, no agency should be exempt from compliance because it is carrying out a government project.

The government has said it will take action under the rules against agencies found violating pollution-control requirements.

The inspections and notices form part of efforts to control dust emissions from construction activity, which remains one of the sources of pollution in the capital.
