Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday took aim at Rahul Gandhi over Congress’s recent election defeats, asking the party to examine its performance instead of blaming the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He also warned Congress to prepare for another defeat in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah cited BJP’s win of 90/104 seats in Gujarat local elections while urging Congress and Rahul Gandhi to introspect their defeats since 1985, instead of blaming the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), and predicted a 2029 loss.
Shah made the remarks while discussing the BJP’s performance in Gujarat’s local body elections and Congress’s defeats in recent bypolls. His comments came as Rahul Gandhi joined the INDIA bloc’s protest against the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Shah Questions Congress’s Election Record
Shah said Congress needed to understand why it was losing elections instead of blaming SIR. He pointed to the party’s long record of defeats in Gujarat and said it had not won an election in the state since 1985.
“I want to make this point clear-and specifically convey it to Rahul ji-that the Congress party has not won a single election in 41 years. The last election they won was back in 1985; since then, they have faced continuous defeats in Gujarat,” Shah said.
He also questioned whether changes to electoral rolls could explain the party’s losses, noting that SIR began only after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“Rahul Gandhi should introspect that is it because of SIR that he is losing elections in Gujarat. Congress needs to introspect rather than blaming SIR,” Shah said.
Amit Shah Takes A Swipe At Rahul Gandhi Over 2029
The Home Minister said Congress should prepare for another electoral setback in 2029. He accused Rahul Gandhi of repeatedly spreading false claims while opposing SIR and said the party needed to learn from its election results.
“Rahul Gandhi is constantly echoing lies,” Shah said.
Shah also referred to Congress’s defeats in bypolls in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. He argued that the party had lost elections even when ballot papers were used, and accused it of following negative politics.
He described Congress as an “anti-democracy” and “anti-Constitution” party, while claiming that voters continued to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.
BJP Wins 90 Of 104 Seats In Gujarat
Shah cited the BJP’s results in Gujarat to support his argument that the party continued to enjoy public backing. According to him, the BJP won 90 of the 104 seats contested across two municipalities and one municipal corporation.
In the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, the BJP secured 38 of the 44 seats. Shah said the party had also increased its vote share there by 10 percentage points compared with the previous election.
He further claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party contested all 32 seats but forfeited its security deposit in every constituency.
“This massive victory in Gujarat reflects the mood of the state’s voters, demonstrating that the electorate of Gujarat stands rock-solid behind Narendra Modi ji,” Shah said.
Shah also pointed to the BJP’s performance in Rajasthan’s local body elections, claiming that the party had won a large majority. He said Congress should focus on understanding the reasons behind its repeated defeats rather than blaming SIR.
