It is probable that most of the schools from various districts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Jharkhand will remain closed on Thursday, October 29 because of the rainfall caused by Cyclone Arnab.

Cyclone Arnab prompted school closures in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Jharkhand on October 29, while Delhi reported Karwa Chauth holidays for government schools and Uttar Pradesh granted leave to female teachers.

However, the day will also be the occasion of celebrating Karwa Chauth festival, and it depends on whether there will be holiday or not in the respective states and schools.

Cyclone has touched down the coast of Andhra Pradesh between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, causing very severe winds and the threat of heavy rains in some parts.

There have been directions issued to close down schools in the affected regions.

For Delhi, as per the information available, the government schools have declared the holiday for the celebration of Karwa Chauth, while for private schools it depends on their calendar. For Uttar Pradesh, the latest news indicates that the female teachers in the basic education schools have been granted holiday, but the students do not have any holiday declared so far.

Andhra Pradesh School Holiday On October 29

One of the states affected by cyclone Arnab which made landfall between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam on October 28 is Andhra Pradesh.

As per news reports, schools in the districts of Anakapalli and ASR have been asked to be closed on October 29 due to weather conditions. The closure of schools in Anakapalli district was planned for three days starting from October 27 to 29.

There were also other districts which were informed about the closure of schools for two days starting from October 27 to 28. Such districts include Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, Krishna, NTR, Vizianagaram, Eluru and Polavaram.

However, such closure does not mean that the third day will also see the holiday for all students in those districts.

Odisha School Holiday On October 29

Schools, colleges and Anganwadi centres in cyclone-affected areas of Odisha have reportedly been ordered to close as a precautionary measure.

The districts mentioned in reports of closures for October 28 and 29 include:

  • Ganjam
  • Gajapati
  • Rayagada
  • Malkangiri
  • Koraput
  • Nabarangpur

District collectors have also been given the authority to decide on closures in other areas depending on local weather conditions.

Parents should follow district-level announcements for confirmation, particularly in areas facing heavy rainfall or possible disruption to transport.

Jharkhand School Holiday On October 29

Schools in four Jharkhand districts have been ordered to remain closed on October 28 and 29 because of rainfall associated with Cyclone Arnab.

The affected districts are Ranchi, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum and Simdega.

In Ranchi, the reported closure covers government, government-aided and private schools, from Kindergarten to Class 12. The precautionary measure aims to reduce risks to students and staff during adverse weather.

Karwa Chauth School Holiday On October 29

Karwa Chauth will be observed on Thursday, October 29, 2026. The festival is celebrated mainly in northern and western India, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

Delhi School Holiday

Government schools in Delhi have reportedly declared a holiday for Karwa Chauth on October 29. Private schools may follow different academic calendars, so parents should confirm the status with their child’s school.

Uttar Pradesh School Holiday

Reports indicate that female teachers in some basic education schools in Uttar Pradesh have been granted leave for Karwa Chauth. However, a general holiday for students across the state has not been confirmed.

Parents should check school notices to determine whether classes will take place as usual or whether alternative arrangements have been made.

Punjab School Holiday

Karwa Chauth appears in Punjab’s holiday calendar as a restricted holiday. This does not necessarily mean that all government and private schools will remain closed.

Students should consult their school’s official holiday list or seek confirmation from the relevant education authorities.

Rajasthan School Holiday

Karwa Chauth is listed as a restricted holiday in the Rajasthan High Court’s 2026 calendar. However, this listing does not establish a statewide school holiday.

Parents should follow their children’s school calendars and official announcements for confirmation.

Tamil Nadu School Holiday

No statewide school closure for October 29 has been confirmed in the information available. Students should check for any district-specific announcement or local weather-related closure.

No nationwide school holiday has been announced for October 29, 2026, based on the information provided. The reported closures are limited to certain districts affected by Cyclone Arnab, while Karwa Chauth holiday arrangements differ across states and institutions.
