A taxi driver suffered critical injuries after a speeding SUV hit a parked cab in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden area, police said. The crash happened on Najafgarh Road early Saturday, at about 3:30 am. Police said the SUV driver was later found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Police in West Delhi said a speeding Tata Harrier struck a stationary Swift Dzire taxi on Najafgarh Road in Rajouri Garden, critically injuring 33-year-old driver Narender Kumar. He was first taken to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital and later moved to Safdarjung Hospital, where he remains in ICU. The SUV driver, Vikas Rathore, was medically examined for intoxication.

Police identified the injured driver as Narender Kumar, 33. Police said Narender Kumar was first taken to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital by the SUV driver. Doctors later referred Narender Kumar to Safdarjung Hospital due to serious head injuries. Police said Narender Kumar is admitted to the intensive care unit ICU.

Rajouri Garden accident investigation and CCTV checks

Police said an eyewitness described the Tata Harrier coming fast from the Raja Garden side. Police said the vehicle then struck the stationary Swift Dzire taxi from behind. Police said the force of the impact suggested very high speed. Police said the collision caused major damage to the taxi’s rear section.

Police said the team from Rajouri Garden police station reached the spot soon after. Police said both vehicles were found at the location in a damaged condition. Police said investigators are checking CCTV footage from the area. Police said officers are also recording statements from witnesses to confirm the sequence of events.

Rajouri Garden accident: driver identification and alcohol test

Police identified the Tata Harrier driver as Vikas Rathore, 30. Police said Vikas Rathore underwent a medical examination after the crash. Police said the test showed a high blood alcohol content. Police said this confirmed Vikas Rathore was driving under the influence during the incident.

Police said doctors treating Narender Kumar described the condition as critical. Police said Narender Kumar remains under close observation at Safdarjung Hospital. Police said a case has been registered against the accused driver. Police said further legal action is being taken as the investigation continues.
