Iran has carried out another execution, drawing strong international attention and concern. Authorities confirmed that a man named Erfan Kiani was hanged on Saturday.

Iran executed Erfan Kiani on Saturday, accusing him of links to Mossad, attacking security personnel, and involvement in anti-government protests, drawing international criticism amid concerns about harsh punishments and due process.

Officials accused him of having links with Mossad and of taking part in anti-government protests earlier this year.

This latest development adds to growing worries about Iran’s increasing use of harsh punishments during a period of political tension and unrest.

Serious Charges Filed by Authorities

According to reports from Iran’s judiciary-linked media, Kiani faced several serious charges. Authorities claimed he was involved in:

  • Attacking security personnel
  • Damaging public and private property
  • Setting fires (arson)
  • Creating fear and instability among the public

The court described him as a “mercenary” allegedly working with foreign intelligence agencies. His death sentence was later confirmed by Iran’s highest judicial authority before the execution was carried out early in the morning.

Crackdown After Protests and Rising Tensions

This execution is part of a wider crackdown that has followed protests earlier in 2026. Demonstrations broke out across Iran in January, driven by public dissatisfaction over economic conditions and political restrictions.

Iranian authorities have repeatedly claimed that these protests were influenced by foreign powers, particularly Israel and Western countries. As a result, the government has increased action against people accused of espionage or involvement in unrest.

The issue has also gained international political attention. Former US President Donald Trump recently claimed that his intervention had slowed executions in Iran. However, recent incidents suggest that executions are continuing without pause.

Concerns Raised by Human Rights Groups

Global human rights organisations have strongly criticised these actions. They argue that many such cases lack transparency and fairness. According to these groups:

  • Trials are often held behind closed doors
  • Accused individuals may not get proper legal support
  • Evidence presented in court is not always publicly reviewed

Reports also suggest that several individuals accused of links with Mossad have been executed in recent weeks. This has raised serious concerns about due process and the possibility of wrongful convictions.

Growing International Pressure

The increasing number of executions has led to mounting pressure on Iran from the international community. Governments and rights organisations are calling for:

  • Greater transparency in legal proceedings
  • Fair trials with proper legal representation
  • A review of the use of capital punishment

As tensions remain high, the situation continues to be closely watched across the world. The latest execution has once again highlighted the deep divide between Iran’s internal policies and global human rights expectations.
