Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken center stage in the state’s response to the horrific Pune child rape-murder case, assuring that his government will pursue the harshest possible punishment and ensure a speedy trial.
On Sunday, the Chief Minister said he had personally spoken to the victim’s father and conveyed that the administration is committed to seeking capital punishment for the accused. He stressed that the case will be fast-tracked and handled with urgency so that justice is delivered without delay.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis assured the strictest punishment, possibly capital punishment, and a swift trial in the Pune child rape-murder case, involving a 4-year-old victim and a 65-year-old accused.

CM Fadnavis also addressed the public outrage surrounding the incident, stating that while emotions are running high and demands for instant punishment are being raised, the government must act within the legal framework. He emphasized that authorities will focus on building a strong, error-free case to prevent any legal loopholes that could weaken the prosecution.
Reassuring the victim’s family, the Chief Minister said the state stands firmly with them and will extend full support throughout the legal process.
Responding to criticism from opposition parties over law and order, Fadnavis defended his government, saying political rivals often raise such issues but fail to reflect on their own track record when in power. He dismissed the allegations and reiterated that ensuring justice in this case remains the government’s priority.
The case pertains to the alleged rape and murder of a four-year-old girl in Pune’s Bhor region on May 1. Police have arrested a 65-year-old man with a prior criminal record, who is accused of luring the child, assaulting her, and killing her.
The incident has sparked widespread anger, leading to protests in the area and intensifying political debate over safety and policing in Maharashtra.
