Gold prices continued to remain strong across major jewellery stores in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, with most leading jewellers in Chennai quoting the 22-carat gold rate at ₹14,510 per gram. The steady rise in prices has once again become a major talking point among jewellery buyers, especially ahead of the upcoming wedding and festive purchase season.
Several leading jewellery chains, including GRT Jewellers, VBJ – Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers, Lalitha Jewellery and Saravana Stores Elite Jewellery, maintained similar rates for gold and silver on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, 22-carat gold traded around ₹14,510 per gram in Tamil Nadu, with major jewellers like GRT and Lalitha Jewellery quoting similar rates, while Coimbatore saw higher prices due to global economic uncertainty impacting prices.
At GRT Jewellers, the price of 24-carat gold stood at ₹15,841 per gram, while 22-carat gold was sold at ₹14,510 per gram. The rate for 18-carat gold was ₹11,880 per gram, while silver was priced at ₹290 per gram. VBJ too quoted identical rates for gold and silver, while platinum was sold at ₹7,840 per gram.
Lalitha Jewellery, one of the popular jewellery chains in Tamil Nadu, fixed the 22-carat gold rate at ₹14,510 per gram and silver at ₹290 per gram. Saravana Stores Elite Jewellery also maintained the 22-carat rate at ₹14,510, while 18-carat gold was sold at ₹11,881 per gram.
However, not all jewellers quoted identical prices. Jeyachandran Gold House reported slightly higher rates compared to other Chennai retailers. The store quoted 24-carat gold at ₹15,982 per gram and 22-carat gold at ₹14,650 per gram. The price of 18-carat gold stood at ₹11,986 per gram, while silver remained unchanged at ₹290 per gram.
Meanwhile, jewellery buyers in Coimbatore saw even higher rates. Kota Gold Jewellery quoted 24-carat gold at ₹16,069 per gram and 22-carat gold at ₹14,730 per gram. The shop priced 10 grams of 22-carat gold at ₹1,47,300.
According to bullion market data updated at noon on Wednesday, Chennai’s broader bullion market showed 24-carat gold at ₹15,807 per gram and 22-carat gold at ₹14,490 per gram. The 18-carat rate stood at ₹11,855 per gram, while 14-carat gold was priced at ₹9,221 per gram.

Jewellery traders say gold prices are continuing to remain volatile due to global economic uncertainty, fluctuations in the US dollar, and investor demand for safe-haven assets. International market trends and geopolitical tensions are also influencing domestic gold prices on a daily basis.

Despite the high rates, jewellers across Tamil Nadu say customer footfall has remained stable, particularly for wedding-related purchases and gold investment schemes. Many buyers are also closely monitoring daily price movements in the hope of a temporary correction before making bulk purchases.
