A residential building in Sector-45, Chandigarh, turned into a disaster site after three gas cylinders exploded in quick succession, killing one person and leaving at least three others critically injured.

The series of blasts shook nearby houses, alarmed the entire neighbourhood and prompted an immediate emergency response from fire, medical and police teams.

One person died and three were critically injured following sequential gas cylinder explosions in a Sector-45, Chandigarh residential building, prompting an investigation into potential negligence and illegal storage.

Police officials said an FIR had been registered and the site was under strict cordon while specialists examined the damaged structure. Officers confirmed that every angle, including possible negligence and illegal storage of cylinders, was being checked as part of the ongoing investigation into the Chandigarh gas cylinder explosion.

Suspected cause and safety concerns after Chandigarh gas cylinder explosion

The blasts have renewed concerns about safety standards in residential pockets of Chandigarh following the gas cylinder explosion. Local residents alleged that many cylinders were stored inside the affected building and claimed a black-market refilling or distribution operation was running there. Officials suspected a gas leak might have triggered the blasts, although the exact cause had not yet been officially confirmed.

Police said all possible factors behind the Chandigarh gas cylinder explosion were under examination, including any breach of storage rules and supply norms. The incident has drawn attention to how cooking fuel is handled in crowded neighbourhoods, and authorities are expected to review safety checks in similar residential buildings once the inquiry is complete.
