Hyderabad is likely to see a spell of unsettled weather over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad issuing a thunderstorm alert for all districts of Telangana till Friday, May 1. Alongside rain and thundershowers, parts of the state may also witness hail and gusty storm activity, while heatwave conditions are expected to persist in several northern and central districts before evening relief sets in.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad issued a thunderstorm alert for all Telangana districts until May 1, forecasting rain, hail, and gusty winds, while heatwave conditions persist in northern/central areas before evening relief sets in.

Yellow alert issued for Telangana till May 1

The IMD Hyderabad has placed all districts of Telangana under a thunderstorm alert for the next four days, with the warning remaining in force till Friday, May 1. In view of the expected change in weather conditions, the department has also issued a yellow alert for the state.

The alert comes as Telangana continues to face a mix of intense daytime heat and increasing chances of late afternoon to night thunderstorms, a pattern that could impact daily commuting and outdoor plans in multiple districts.

Telangana Weatherman predicts powerful storms and hail in several districts

Adding to the concern, weather forecaster T Balaji, popularly known for his accurate predictions on X through the Telangana Weatherman handle, warned of strong thunderstorm activity and possible hail in many parts of the state.

He wrote, “Get ready for powerful storms along with hail in Nalgonda, Yadadri-Bhongir, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Mahabubnagar, Gadwal, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Rangareddy, Medak, Siddipet, Jangaon, Hanmakonda, Adilabad, and Asifabad during the afternoon to night.”

For Hyderabad, he said, “Get ready for a moderate to intense thunderstorm along with isolated hailstorms during the afternoon to night.”

His broader forecast also highlighted that heatwave conditions are likely to continue in north and central Telangana even as storm systems build up later in the day.

Rain likely in Hyderabad till April 30, temperatures to stay high before showers

According to IMD Hyderabad, the city is expected to receive rain till Thursday, April 30. The department has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers during this period.

However, the city is still likely to remain hot during the first half of the day before rain activity develops later. This means Hyderabad residents may continue to experience sharp afternoon temperatures followed by evening weather changes.

The combination of heat and moisture could lead to unstable conditions, raising the possibility of sudden thunderstorms across different parts of the city.

Heatwave continues in Telangana as temperatures soar in Nizamabad and Hyderabad

Even as rain chances increase, heatwave conditions are expected to remain in place over northern and central Telangana.

On Sunday, Nizamabad recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 46 degrees Celsius, underlining the severity of the heat in interior districts. In Hyderabad, the highest maximum temperature touched 42.5 degrees Celsius in Charminar.

With thunderstorms forecast in several districts and temperatures still running high, residents across Telangana, especially in Hyderabad, are being advised to plan travel and outdoor activities carefully over the next few days, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours when storm activity is expected to intensify.
