An Air India pilot was found dead in Delhi after he was found unconscious inside his hotel room during a layover, Air India and Delhi Police confirmed this on Saturday. The Mumbai-based captain had checked into hotel in Vasant Kunj for a layover on 10 September and he was scheduled to operate a flight early on 12 September. He was taken to hospital after he was unresponsive but was brought declared dead.
An Air India pilot was discovered dead in his Vasant Kunj hotel room in Delhi on September 11th during a layover, after being found unresponsive. Following hospitalization where he was declared dead, a post-mortem was conducted at Safdarjung Hospital on September 12th, and a case was filed under BNSS Section 194.
Pilot Found Unresponsive In Vasant Kunj Hotel
According to Delhi Police, a PCR call at Vasant Kunj police station received an information about the pilot’s brother contacted the hotel manager on evening of 11 September. The brother told that he had been unable to reach by phone.
Later the hotel manager entered the hotel room and found the door locked from inside. He then opened it with master key and found the pilot unconscious and unresponsive.
The pilot was admitted to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Then the police crime team was called to the hotel.
Pilot Had Recently Joined Air India
The dead pilot had recently joined Air India just two months ago, earlier he was working with Air India Express. He was based in Mumbai and stopped in Delhi as a part of his flight duty schedule.
Air India released the statement mentioning “deeply saddened” by his death and said it remained in close contact with his family. The airline also said that they are doing all the possible support to the family during this difficult time.
As the pilot died during the layover but there is no linked up incident or indication that his death was connected with any aviation incident.
Post-Mortem Conducted At Safdarjung Hospital
Delhi Police confirmed that the pilot’s post-mortem was examined at Safdarjung Hospital on 12 September and police have not disclosed the cause of the death yet.
However, the final cause of the death will be given only after the authorities receive the post-mortem report and final medical opinion. Police said the final inquiry is still on.
Police has filed a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which provides the legal framework for police inquiry into certain deaths, including deaths occurring under circumstances that require investigation.
