In West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee’s TMC is locked in a close fight with the BJP. The contest has tightened across several key constituencies, with both sides trading leads in a race that looks far more competitive than the last election.
Vote counting for West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry elections started at 8 am; early trends show a close TMC vs BJP fight in West Bengal, DMK’s M. K. Stalin leading in Tamil Nadu, BJP strong in Assam, a balanced race in Kerala, and AINRC ahead in Puducherry.
In Assam, the BJP-led alliance is maintaining a strong position across most of the 126 seats. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appears on track to retain power, although the Congress is putting up resistance in select pockets.

Tamil Nadu is witnessing a strong performance by the DMK under M. K. Stalin, with the party crossing key majority thresholds in early trends. At the same time, actor-politician Vijay has emerged as a disruptive force, cutting into traditional vote banks and influencing tight contests.
In Kerala, the race remains finely balanced between the Left front led by Pinarayi Vijayan and the Congress-led opposition, with shifting leads reflecting a closely fought election.
In Puducherry, N. Rangasamy’s AINRC alliance is ahead, moving steadily towards a comfortable majority in the 30-seat assembly.
As counting progresses, seat numbers continue to fluctuate in closely contested constituencies, with the final outcome set to determine whether incumbent governments retain control or face major political change across these five regions.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of planning disruptions during the vote counting scheduled for May 4.
