A major industrial accident at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Monday claimed at least eight lives and left several others injured after a massive leak of molten liquid steel triggered a fire inside the facility. The incident occurred in the SMS-2 and STC-3 Heat FG units, prompting an immediate emergency response and large-scale rescue efforts.

Eight people died and several were injured in a fire at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Monday, triggered by a molten steel leak. Rescue efforts are underway, and CM Chandrababu Naidu has ordered top medical care for the injured.

Massive Leak Triggers Fire Inside Plant

According to preliminary information, the accident took place while molten steel was being lifted within the plant. During the operation, a sudden leak of the superheated metal led to an explosion-like situation, sparking a major fire in the affected units.

The blaze quickly spread through the area, creating panic among workers and staff members. Employees rushed out of the premises as emergency protocols were activated to prevent further casualties.

Firefighting teams were immediately deployed to the site and worked to contain the flames while rescue personnel searched for those trapped or injured in the accident.

Eight Lives Lost, Several Under Treatment

Authorities confirmed that eight people have lost their lives in the tragic incident. Several others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Officials are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage and verify the number of affected workers. Medical teams remain on alert as the injured receive treatment.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu Reviews Situation

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep shock and grief over the loss of lives in the accident. Soon after receiving information about the tragedy, he spoke with senior officials to review the situation and monitor the rescue operations.

The Chief Minister directed authorities to ensure that all injured individuals receive the best possible medical care without delay. He also instructed concerned departments to work in close coordination to speed up rescue, relief and recovery efforts.

Rescue Operations Continue

Steel Plant officials briefed the Chief Minister on the developments at the accident site and the measures being taken to manage the crisis. Rescue teams and emergency responders continued operations throughout the day as efforts remained focused on controlling the aftermath of the fire and assisting affected workers.

Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the molten steel leak and assess whether any safety lapses contributed to the disaster. The tragic incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with heavy industrial operations and the importance of stringent safety measures at large manufacturing facilities.
