Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday performed bhoomi pujan for a 25-foot statue of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Indore and said it will help the younger generation draw inspiration from his life and thoughts.

Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav performed bhoomi pujan for a 25-foot gunmetal statue of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Indore’s Dussehra Maidan, built by Indore Municipal Corporation for Rs 1.97 crore, expected to be completed in four months.
The statue and its pedestal are being constructed at Dussehra Maidan by the Indore Municipal Corporation at Rs 1.97 crore, officials said. Yadav said installing Vajpayee’s statue at a prominent public place like Dussehra Maidan was not merely constructing a memorial but also a way to carry his ideals to future generations.
He said the statue would familiarise citizens, particularly young people, with Vajpayee’s life, patriotism, good governance, democratic values and commitment to nation-building. The statue will be made of gunmetal and will stand 25 feet tall.
It is expected to be completed in about four months, they said. Yadav said the site would serve as a permanent memorial to Vajpayee’s ideals of public service, good governance, democratic values and national unity. It would also provide citizens and young people an opportunity to draw inspiration from Vajpayee’s life and thoughts, he said.
Vajpayee, the first BJP leader to become prime minister, was born on December 25, 1924, in Gwalior and died on August 16, 2018, in New Delhi. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leaders paid glowing tributes to Vajpayee on the anniversary of his death, emphasising his unparalleled role in India’s progress.
