The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has strongly criticized the decision of the Bar Council of India (BCI) chairman Manan Kumar Mishra who revoked the order for freezing the enrolment of NALSAR University of Law’s entire 2026 batch within hours of issuing the order.
The council had directed all State Bar Councils to withhold registration of students of NALSAR’s 2026 graduating batch while the BCI got details of the ‘campaign’ against the Chief Justice of India Surya Kant’s address at the varsity’s convocation.
The Bar Council of India (BCI) revoked its order freezing enrolment for NALSAR University’s 2026 batch, after concluding students were not involved in a campaign against CJI Surya Kant, following criticism from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
The decision to withdraw the order came barely two hours after it was issued. The BCI chairman Manan Kumar Mishra clarified that all students of NALSAR’s 2026 batch will be free to seek enrolment with their preferred State Bar Councils as no students were involved in an alleged ‘campaign’.
The CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke reacted strongly to the BCI order, saying in a post on X at around 7:25 pm, “What if all legal cockroaches come together?” and questioned if another ‘youth revolt like the one led by the CJP at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar’ was in the offing soon.
“Thereafter, the BCI decided in response to representations to lift the order after due consideration by senior-most advocates and members of the Bar, law students, and general citizens,” wrote Mishra in another post shortly before midnight. He said the BCI had concluded that “the NALSAR 2026 batch is not involved in any manner in connection with the disturbance and mobilisation that took place recently.”
“Proceedings have since been closed by the BCI, with no further action required,” he added.
This contretemps has shone the light on the decision-making process of the BCI. The CJP questioned why it had penalised an entire batch of law graduates for alleged miscreancy by a few persons.
In this context, it is pertinent to mention that the CJP has been in the news recently for spearheading the youth revolt at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
The BCI’s stand is that NALSAR’s 2026 batch graduates will not face any restrictions regarding registration. Meanwhile, the BCI’s probe into the alleged affairs has been concluded.
