A London-bound Virgin Atlantic flight carrying 270 passengers returned to Bengaluru airport and made an emergency landing on Sunday after developing a technical problem shortly after take-off.

The aircraft departed from Kempegowda International Airport at around 8:20 am. According to sources at Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the flight developed a technical issue soon after leaving Bengaluru.

A Virgin Atlantic flight carrying 270 passengers to London made an emergency landing back at Bengaluru airport on Sunday after encountering a technical problem shortly after take-off, with all passengers confirmed safe.

The crew reportedly kept the aircraft circling near Tumakuru for more than 30 minutes before deciding to return to the airport as a safety precaution.

The aircraft subsequently landed back at Bengaluru airport. BIAL sources confirmed that all passengers on board were safe.

Airport authorities are currently working to determine the exact nature of the technical problem that forced the aircraft to turn back.

Virgin Atlantic has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.

The emergency return comes after the aircraft had already begun its journey to London. Details regarding the nature of the fault, the aircraft’s subsequent operation and arrangements for passengers are awaited.

Authorities are expected to assess the aircraft before any further decision is taken regarding its operation.

Further details are awaited as airport officials and the airline examine the incident.
