Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Saturday announced that he will be donating his one month’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the severe flood situation in the state.
Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary announced donating one month’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for floods affecting nearly 50 lakh people in 15 districts, alongside other BJP leaders’ pledges and prior distribution of Rs 579.23 crore relief assistance.
The announcement came at the time when BJP president Nitin Nabin has pledged to fund 6.35 lakh Rs, while donating his three months salary as Member of Parliament.
Samrat Choudhary Donates One Month’s Salary
In a social media post, Choudhary said, “As CM, I am contributing my one month’s salary to the relief fund to assist the flood-affected families in Bihar.”
Singer-turned-politician and BJP MP Manoj Tiwari has also announced that he would contribute his two months’ salary to the fund.
Nearly 50 Lakh People Affected By Floods
Bihar is grappling with a severe flood situation, with nearly 49.72 lakh people in 15 districts affected, according to the Disaster Management Department.
Among the affected districts are Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai and Buxar.
The Ganga, Kosi, Punpun, Budhi Gandak, Bagmati and Ghaghara rivers continued to flow above danger levels at several locations, the department said.
Relief Camps And Community Kitchens Operational
The administration is operating 303 community kitchens and seven relief camps in the affected areas. These facilities are providing food, accommodation, medical care and other essential services to around 9,003 people, it said.
Earlier, the Bihar BJP had donated Rs 51 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. State BJP president Sanjay Saraogi handed over the cheque to Choudhary on Friday.
Saraogi said all BJP MPs, MLAs and MLCs in the state would contribute one month’s salary to support relief and rehabilitation efforts.
“Every BJP worker stands with affected families during this time of disaster,” Saraogi said, describing assistance to flood victims as a collective responsibility.
Rs 579 Crore Relief Assistance Transferred
On Tuesday, Choudhary had transferred Rs 579.23 crore in relief assistance to 8.27 lakh flood-affected families.
Each eligible family was provided Rs 7,000, officials said.
