A 26-year-old school teacher was shot dead inside a school in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri after a man she was allegedly in a relationship with confronted her on Monday. The accused, identified as 27-year-old Mohammad Saud, later died by suicide at the same school, police said.
The incident occurred at Children’s Academy School around 11:30 am, causing panic among students and staff members. The deceased teacher, Nishat Fatima, had been working at the school for almost a year.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, teacher Nishat Fatima was fatally shot inside a school on Monday by Mohammad Saud, a man she allegedly had a relationship with, who then died by suicide; police are investigating security.
According to police, Fatima and Saud had been together, but she had ended their relationship, and Saud allegedly arrived at the school with a gun concealed in a bag and asked Fatima to go downstairs.
He then took her to a corridor on an upper floor. A school staff member reportedly followed the two as they went up the stairs. During the conversation, Saud allegedly pulled the gun and shot Fatima in the head and then turned the gun on himself.
Both were declared dead at the scene.
CCTV footage from the school reportedly showed Saud pulling Fatima by the arm and taking her up the upper floor. The footage also revealed that students were present nearby when the incident occurred, causing staff and children to be terrified.
Witnesses told AajTak that they heard four gunshots. The gunshots caused panic inside the school and led staff members to alert the police.
The school caters to children up to Class 5. Police teams are investigating CCTV recordings and how Saud was able to enter the premises with a gun.
Authorities are also reviewing the school’s security arrangements and access-control measures. A senior police officer said more details are expected after the post-mortem examination. Police will also assess if any security lapses contributed to the incident and issue directions for corrective measures if necessary.
