With Carlos Alcaraz withdrawing from the ongoing French Open due to an injury, David Ferrer gave an update on the world No. 2’s recovery. Alcaraz withdrew due to a right wrist injury sustained at the Barcelona Open last month.

Speaking on El Partidazo de Cope, Spanish Davis Cup captain Ferrer said, “I talk with him, the recovery is going well, but the facts must be met and little by little. The important thing is that he recovers well and when he goes to play or makes his competition debut again, he does so with full guarantees so he does not get injured.”

“Well, I think that in the end he is so competitive that he has a lot of desire to return to competition. I know that he wants to return,” he added.

Carlos Alcaraz’s 2026 season

Ahead of the ongoing 2026 season, Alcaraz parted ways with longtime coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. He started his season at the Australian Open, where he got to the semifinals without dropping a set. In the semis, he faced Alexander Zverev, and he won the first two sets before suffering from cramps. Then he dropped the third and fourth sets in tiebreaks, and came out on top in the decider in a contest that lasted five hours and 27 minutes.

The result saw him become the youngest man in the Open Era to reach the final of all four majors. He beat Novak Djokovic in the final to win his first Australian Open title, becoming the youngest player in history to complete a career Grand Slam in men’s singles.

He withdrew from the Rotterdam Open due to fatigue and returned to action at the Qatar Open, where he beat Arthur Fils in the final. At the Indian Wells, he lost to Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. Meanwhile, at the Miami Open, he lost to Sebastian Korda in the third round.

He reached the final in Monte Carlo, but lost to Jannik Sinner. The defeat also saw him lose the No. 1 ranking to Sinner. During his first-round match at the Barcelona Open, he withdrew due to injury, and he did the same in Madrid and at the Italian Open.
