A tragic accident that occurred in Kaushambi district, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the death of five people has been reported. This all started after a LPG tanker skidded out of control, smashed into a barricade, and burst into flames due to a leakage of gas.

An LPG tanker crashed and caught fire due to a gas leak at the Sihori Toll Plaza in Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in five deaths, including the driver and four toll workers.

This is because two more injured toll plaza workers have passed away while under treatment following an accident that resulted in their hospitalization. The accident involved an LPG tanker at Sihori Toll Plaza, captured in a CCTV camera.

How Did This Happen?

This tragic accident took place on June 26, the LPG tanker was making its way from Kanpur to Varanasi when the driver lost control of the vehicle near the Sihori Toll Plaza. Consequently, the LPG tanker crashed into a road divider and there was a leakage of gas, which rapidly spread.

Soon, the leaking gas turned into flames creating an inferno that completely engulfed the LPG tanker along with some parts of the toll plaza.
Videos have emerged of the accident, depicting the speedy tanker crash into the road divider followed by bursting of flames.

Tanker Driver Died on the Spot

The tanker driver, Dharmendra Dwivedi, who is a native of the Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh, got trapped in the cabin following the crash.
According to the police, he could not save himself from getting killed as the vehicle burst into flames.

As per reports, the fire broke out in such an intensity that rescue work became hard immediately after the accident.

Employees from Toll Plaza among the Victims

The fire also critically burned five employees who were working at the toll plaza.
All of them sustained severe burns and have been admitted to Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital, Prayagraj.

One of the injured victims, Alok Singh, lost his life the next day following the accident.
Two more employees who were injured due to the fire and are residents of Raebareli, Hiramani Singh and Krishnapal Maurya of Lalitpur respectively died on Thursday.
The death toll is now increased to five.

There are two more employees from the toll plaza, who are receiving treatment in the hospital.

Kokhraj Station House Officer Chandra Bhushan Maurya confirmed the latest fatalities. He said two more injured victims died while undergoing treatment, taking the total number of deaths in the incident to five.

Police have taken the bodies into custody for post-mortem examinations, and further legal proceedings are underway.
