Chennai Weather Update: TN Capital Likely To Receive Moderate Rains Over Next 2 Days

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast moderate rainfall for Chennai and Chengalpattu during the next 48 hours.

According to its daily bulletin, residents can expect thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph at isolated locations.

The Regional Meteorological Centre forecasts moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and winds up to 50 kmph for Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Ranipet over the next 48 hours. Chennai’s maximum temperatures are expected between 37-38°C, with isolated areas receiving up to 7 cm of rain.

Neighbouring districts, including Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Ranipet, along with parts of the Western Ghats, are also likely to experience similar weather conditions. In the rest of Tamil Nadu, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal, light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected at one or two places.

The RMC said maximum temperatures in Chennai are likely to hover around 37-38°C, while minimum temperatures are expected to settle between 27°C and 28°C over the next two days. The Met office said there would be no significant change in maximum temperatures across the state.

Chennai Rains RMC Forecasts Moderate Showers Thunderstorms In City Chengalpattu

Palayamkottai recorded the highest temperature in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday at 39.2°C. Meanwhile, Dharmapuri recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 22°C, while Ooty was much cooler at 11.6°C.

Several districts received significant rainfall on Wednesday. Manalmedu and Kollidam in Mayiladuthurai district recorded 7 cm of rain each, while Bahour in Puducherry and Cuddalore received 6 cm. Tiruppur South recorded 5 cm of rainfall.

The weather department noted that maximum temperatures were 2-4°C above normal at isolated places across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, while remaining near normal elsewhere.
