The School Education Department is preparing supplementary textual and visual material covering Chhattisgarh’s history, heritage, architecture, folk traditions, songs, music, saints, prominent personalities and creative traditions.

A three-day residential workshop is being organised at the State Council of Educational Research and Training in Shankar Nagar, Raipur, from August 24 to 26 to prepare the material, officials said.

Around 100 writers, subject experts, cultural practitioners, researchers and mass communication experts from across the state are participating in the workshop and working on nearly 100 topics related to Chhattisgarh’s art, culture and civilisation.

Subject-wise groups have been formed to develop content, which will also include scripts for five-to-10-minute short films on various topics, officials said.

The initiative is being undertaken in line with the National Education Policy and aims to provide locally developed supplementary learning material for students, teachers, trainers, educational administrators and parents.

Officials said the material would seek to develop among students greater awareness, sensitivity and pride towards the state’s cultural heritage.

The proposed repository will cover the contributions of prominent personalities, saints, writers and artists associated with Chhattisgarh, including Guru Ghasidas, Raja Chakradhar, Padma Shri awardee Teejan Bai, Vinod Kumar Shukla, Madhavrao Sapre, Minimata, Pandit Sundarlal Sharma, Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh and Gundadhur, among others.

It will also feature the state’s architecture, pilgrimage sites, festivals, folk dances, music and traditional crafts.

Officials added that the initiative is aimed at preserving and presenting Chhattisgarh’s rich cultural heritage in a form that can be integrated into the educational experience of students from Classes 6 to 12.
