Delhi’s MCD suspended engineer Vikas Kumar Gupta over vandalism claims at activist Jagriti Mishra’s animal shelter after CM Rekha Gupta pledged investigation and ₹5 lakh financial aid.
Why Did MCD Suspend Junior Engineer Vikas Kumar Gupta?
According to the MCD order, Vikas Kumar Gupta, a junior engineer in the Building Department of the Outer North Zone, has been suspended with immediate effect. His BMID number is 40033050.
The order also states that the department is considering initiating disciplinary proceedings against him. During the suspension period, Gupta will receive a subsistence allowance as per the applicable rules.
He has also been directed not to leave his station without permission. His headquarters during the suspension will be the office of the Superintending Engineer in the Outer North Zone.
The suspension is an initial administrative step, and further action will depend on the outcome of the proceedings.
What Did Rekha Gupta Promise Jagriti Mishra?

In a post on her official X account, the Chief Minister said an inquiry had been ordered into the junior engineer’s conduct. She also said the police had been directed to register a case against those responsible.

Gupta instructed the District Magistrate to assist Mishra and support her efforts to establish an animal shelter. She also promised financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The Chief Minister said the government would not tolerate harassment of citizens or the misuse of authority. She added that anyone found guilty during the investigation would face strict legal action.
How Did the Animal Shelter Controversy Begin?
The controversy reportedly began with allegations of bribery, followed by bulldozer action at Jagriti Mishra’s animal shelter. The incident subsequently drew attention from the Delhi government, leading to promises of an inquiry and assistance for the activist.
However, the final findings regarding the bribery allegations and responsibility for the alleged vandalism have not yet been established. The claims should therefore be treated as allegations until the investigations are completed.
AAP Denies Connection With The Controversy
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jarnail Singh also met Jagriti Mishra following the controversy.
In a statement on X, the party said it had no connection with the alleged bribery or the demolition at the animal shelter. According to the party, Mishra expressed regret over her statement during the meeting, and the misunderstanding surrounding the issue was resolved.
The case now involves departmental scrutiny and potential police action. The findings of the investigations will determine whether further action is required against those accused of involvement in the incident.
