Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is in the radar as a complaint has been filed against him at Patna’s Kotwali police station over his remark about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father during a public event in Bihar.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge faces a police complaint in Patna after remarking on PM Modi’s father during a Bihar event, drawing criticism from Union Home Minister Amit Shah and defense from Congress leaders.
Krishna Singh Kallu, a member of the BJP’s state working committee, submitted a written complaint seeking action over the statement.
The controversy began during an event marking the 139th birth anniversary of former Bihar chief minister Dr Shri Krishna Singh, popularly known as Sri Babu. While addressing the gathering, Kharge reportedly responded to a man who interrupted his speech by saying that Modi would not go anywhere.
Kharge replied, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega” (Even Modi’s father will go). A video of the exchange has circulated online, triggering criticism from BJP leaders and a defence of the Congress president from his party colleagues.
What Did Mallikarjun Kharge Say At The Patna Event?
It was during this programme of Shri Krishna Singh that one person from the audience is reported to have raised the slogan, “Modi won’t go.”
It was due to this incident that Kharge made this comment regarding the Prime Minister’s father. This incident resulted in a stir at the place and later became the subject of criticism from BJP leaders.
In his speech, Kharge also criticized the process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the political establishment of BJP.

Kharge appealed to stop the SIR exercise, restore ballot papers in future polls and also cancel assembly elections conducted over the past two years.
Terming the opposition against SIR as “second war of independence,” Kharge accused that there is tampering with the electoral process and that names of the opposition supporters are being removed from the voting list. Kharge also criticized the conduct of the Election Commission and made allegations of “vote chori” in states like West Bengal, Haryana, Bihar, and Maharashtra.
Apart from this, Kharge also criticized BJP and RSS.
Congress Leader Pawan Khera Defends Kharge
Congress leader Pawan Khera defended Kharge and accused the BJP of creating controversies to target the Congress president.
Responding to the row, Khera alleged that a BJP worker had insulted Kharge during an earlier incident in Uttarakhand and claimed that the party was now using the Patna exchange to attack him again.

Khera also accused the BJP’s top leadership of deliberately orchestrating such incidents. These claims represent the Congress party’s version of events and have not been independently established.
The Congress defence centres on its claim that Kharge was responding to an insulting interruption rather than initiating the exchange. The BJP, meanwhile, has condemned the words used by the Congress president.
Amit Shah Slams Kharge Over Remark On PM Modi’s Father
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also criticised Kharge in a post on X, accusing the Congress president of crossing the limits of political decorum by making an “indecent remark” about Modi’s father.
Shah alleged that the Congress party had repeatedly used insulting language against the Prime Minister and his family. He referred to previous controversies involving remarks about Modi’s mother, his description as a “merchant of death” and comments about his background as a tea seller.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, Shah claimed that repeated electoral defeats had left the Congress increasingly dependent on personal attacks instead of policy-based criticism. He also said that voters had repeatedly responded to such remarks through elections.
Shah’s comments added to the BJP’s criticism of Kharge, turning the incident into a wider political exchange between the two parties.
