An accident at Delhi’s Mehram Nagar has forced diversion of roads leading to Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport. A 48-years-old woman was killed after got hit by a speeding BMW while crossing the road on Tuesday.
In Delhi’s Mehram Nagar, Jaiwanti, 48, was fatally struck by a speeding BMW while crossing the road, leading to protests and traffic diversions impacting Terminal 3; the driver is under arrest.
The victim has been identified as Jaiwanti, who worked as house help and reportedly crossing at zebra crossing got hit by BMW. This incident has triggered public protest by local residents, who have blocked road.
Woman Killed While Crossing Road
According to police, the accident took place during noon near Mehram Nagar, opposite to Police colony. Jaiwanti was crossing road to going for lunch when BMW allegedly hit her.
The injuries were severe that she died on the spot, police confirmed development. Police has arrested the driver who has been identified as 38-years-old Deepak, a resident of Pratap Nagar in Mandoli. The investigation has started after arrest.
Police Begin Legal Action
The police has registered a case in the connection with the accident and police said further legal action will be taken following the investigation.
The police is expected to investigate the circumstances of the accident and also the speed in which BMW car was driving that led to accident.
Locals Block Road Near IGI Airport
After Jaiwanti’s death, angry local residents and family members have gathered and blocked the road in the protest. Police have been deployed heavily and actions have been taken to stop escalation.
The road between NSG Red Light and Terminal 3 has been temporarily closed due to protest. Delhi Traffic Police advised commuters travelling from Mahipalpur to Terminal-3 to avoid the route and take NH-48 cut at Mahipalpur.
Now the traffic also heading to T-3 towards T-1, Dhaula Kuan and Mahipalpur has also diverted. Police late confirmed that roads towards T-2 from NSG traffic light has been reopened.
