Marking Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Delhi government announces a package of measures for schoolgirls. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta outlines plans covering sanitation, medical support, complaint systems and awareness drives. The aim is to boost menstrual hygiene in Delhi schools while making campuses safer, more respectful and more comfortable for every student.
Delhi government’s Menstrual Hygiene Day package for schoolgirls, announced by CM Rekha Gupta, introduces menstruation corners, sanitary pad vending machines, a helpline, HPV vaccination tracking, and improved sanitation to boost hygiene and safety in Delhi schools.
Rekha Gupta explains that the government does not want to stop at supplying sanitary pads. The wider goal is to reshape the overall school environment for girls. Gupta states, “Healthy and self-reliant daughters are the real foundation of a developed Delhi.” Policies are being framed so that this idea reflects in everyday school life.
Menstrual hygiene in Delhi schools: menstruation corners and facilities
A key feature of the plan is a “menstruation corner” in every government school. These spaces will stock sanitary napkins, basic hygiene products and extra innerwear for emergencies. Sanitary pad vending machines will be installed faster in school washrooms. Officials believe such facilities can reduce absenteeism among students who avoid classes due to limited menstrual support.
Along with these corners, schools will receive cleaner and better equipped toilets. Dedicated medical rooms will be set up or upgraded where possible. Regular awareness campaigns on menstrual hygiene in Delhi schools will run for students and staff. The government expects these steps to provide privacy, quick help and reliable information during periods.
Menstrual hygiene in Delhi schools: helpline, HPV vaccination and awareness
The government is also preparing a toll-free helpline for menstrual hygiene in Delhi schools. Students and parents will be able to register complaints or share suggestions directly with authorities. The number will be clearly painted near entrances and on internal walls. Officials want help to be available quickly when any hygiene or safety issue arises on campus.
Infrastructure work will support these social measures. Schools will receive RO water coolers to offer safe drinking water. Buildings will undergo fresh whitewash and basic repair work. From June to August, the education department will run a large tree-planting drive in and around school grounds, aiming to make campuses cleaner and more pleasant.
Data collection will track HPV vaccination status school by school to support menstrual hygiene in Delhi schools. Authorities will map how many girls have received the HPV vaccine. Participation of government schoolgirls in the “Haonslo Ki Udaan” programme will be ensured. Experts say menstrual awareness strengthens health, confidence and dignity together, making this initiative important for both education and women’s health in Delhi.
