The fire started around 8.50 am in the Hauz Rani locality of South Delhi, within the Malviya Nagar area. The Delhi Fire Service received a call about the blaze at about 9.45 am, prompting a large emergency response and deployment of several firefighting teams.

According to the Delhi Fire Service, three people were pulled out from the restaurant basement by personnel and shifted to a hospital using CATS ambulances. Overall, Delhi Police said 11 injured individuals were evacuated from the building and taken for medical treatment at nearby facilities.
Police officials stated that details on the condition of those injured would be known only after doctors issued their assessments. Firefighters brought the flames under control later in the day, but teams continued to search the structure to ensure no occupants remained trapped inside the damaged premises.

Senior officials said 10 fire tenders were sent to tackle the restaurant blaze, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Nehru Place fire station. Divisional Officer Ravinder from the Nehru Place station was present at the location and supervised the firefighting and rescue work as crews moved through the building.
AAP leader Somnath Bharti, whose constituency includes Hauz Rani, commented on the incident on X. Bharti posted: “Massive fire in a multi-storied building in Hauzrani, my assembly constituency, today around 8.30 a.m., casualties possible. Majorly South African nationals.” Authorities had not independently confirmed the nationality of those affected.
Investigators had yet to identify the exact trigger for the fire at Lemon Green Restaurant. Fire officials and Delhi Police personnel continued inspecting the site even after the blaze was controlled, checking the damaged floors and gathering information that could explain how the incident developed on Wednesday morning.
Earlier Delhi incident linked to LPG blast before Malviya Nagar fire
The Malviya Nagar fire followed another serious emergency elsewhere in Delhi a day earlier, when 10 people were injured after a suspected LPG cylinder explosion caused a building to collapse in Mukundpur on Tuesday morning, adding to concerns about safety in busy residential and commercial structures.
Officials said the Delhi Fire Service received a distress call about the suspected explosion around 9.37 am on Tuesday. Multiple fire tenders and rescue teams were rushed to the Mukundpur spot. Preliminary findings suggested an LPG cylinder blast might have triggered the collapse at a structure reportedly used as a utensil polishing unit.
Taken together, the Mukundpur collapse and the Malviya Nagar restaurant tragedy highlighted recurring urban safety risks in the national capital, as agencies focused on treating the injured, confirming the identities of those who died and piecing together technical evidence to understand the causes behind both incidents.
