Eight people, including four women and four children, died Sunday evening when a pickup van carrying 15 religious pilgrims lost control and plunged into a well near Tandulwadi village in Maharashtra’s Solapur district; seven others were injured and are receiving hospital treatment.

Seven other passengers sustained injuries in the accident and are currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. The incident has left the local community in shock and mourning.

How Did the Accident Happen?

According to police officials, the accident took place near Tandulwadi village in the Malshiras tehsil of Solapur district. The pickup van was carrying a total of 15 passengers when it suddenly veered off the road and fell into a well located beside the highway.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal accident. Authorities are examining the exact cause and have launched an inquiry into the incident.

Solapur Superintendent of Police Atul Kulkarni confirmed that eight people died in the mishap, while seven others were rescued with injuries.

Rescue Operation Launched Immediately

Soon after information about the accident reached local authorities, police personnel, emergency responders, and rescue teams rushed to the spot. A large-scale rescue operation was launched to pull the passengers out of the well.

The injured victims were safely rescued and shifted to nearby hospitals, where they are currently receiving medical treatment. Officials said efforts were also made to retrieve the damaged vehicle and ensure that no one remained trapped inside.

Hospital authorities are closely monitoring the condition of the injured, and further updates are expected as treatment continues.

Pilgrims Were Travelling Together From Ranjani Village

Police said all 15 occupants of the pickup van were residents of Ranjani village in the Pandharpur region. They were travelling together as part of a religious pilgrimage when the accident occurred.

The loss of several women and young children has made the tragedy particularly heartbreaking for the village. Family members and local residents have been left devastated by the sudden deaths of their loved ones.

The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the entire community, with many gathering to support the affected families.

Calls for Investigation and Assistance

Following the accident, political leaders and public representatives expressed condolences to the bereaved families. NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Rohit Pawar described the incident as heartbreaking and extended his sympathies to those who lost their loved ones.
He also called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash and urged the authorities to provide all necessary support and assistance to the injured victims and the families of the deceased.

Police Begin Probe Into the Incident

Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events that caused the vehicle to plunge into the well. Officials are expected to examine factors such as the condition of the vehicle, the state of the road, and whether any mechanical failure or driver error contributed to the tragedy.

As the investigation continues, the focus remains on supporting the survivors and helping the families cope with the devastating loss.

The Solapur accident is yet another reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for greater precautions during long-distance and group travel, especially when carrying a large number of passengers.
