Three people were injured after an electric car crashed into the Guanyin Shrine in Bangkok’s Chinatown on Thursday afternoon. The incident took place on Yaowarat Road at around 1 pm, when the vehicle reportedly entered the shrine premises and hit people who were there.

An electric car crashed into Bangkok’s Guanyin Shrine on Yaowarat Road Thursday afternoon, injuring three people after the elderly driver reportedly lost consciousness and unintentionally accelerated into the shrine.
Initial information suggests that the driver, an elderly man with a health condition linked to high blood pressure, may have lost consciousness while driving. Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Electric Car Hits People Inside Shrine
The crash occurred at the Guanyin Shrine, located within the premises of the Thian Fah Foundation on Yaowarat Road.
According to Pol Lt Col Atthapol Darok, deputy chief of the Phlapphla Chai 2 police station, witnesses told police that the elderly driver suddenly lost consciousness while behind the wheel.

The vehicle reportedly accelerated after the driver became unconscious and unintentionally pressed the accelerator. The electric sedan then moved forward and entered the shrine area, where several people were present.
The car struck people inside the premises, leaving three people injured.
Two Victims Reportedly Seriously Injured
Emergency teams quickly reached the shrine and provided assistance to the injured. All three victims were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Initial reports said that two of the injured people suffered serious injuries. The exact medical condition of the victims was not immediately available.
The collision also damaged some objects inside the shrine and parts of its structure, according to FM91 Trafficpro.
Guanyin Statue Escapes Damage
Despite the car travelling deep into the shrine, the main Guanyin statue was reportedly not damaged. The electric sedan came to a stop at the base of the statue after crashing through the shrine area. Emergency responders then worked to assist the injured and secure the location.
