LPG gas cylinder booking has come under fresh buzz, with several reports claiming that Karnataka government has revised the LPG booking period to 26 days. The move comes amid ongoing gas shortage concerns, with auto LPG queues returning in Bengaluru and households reporting delays in domestic cylinder refills.

As per the latest direction, LPG agencies have been told to follow a rule mandating a minimum 26-day gap for booking domestic cylinders including 14.2 kg, 10 kg and 5 kg variants. However, 19 kg commercial cylinders continue under separate supply dynamics, largely dependent on demand and availability.

Officials have also instructed distributors to prevent queues outside outlets under any circumstance even as ground reality shows otherwise.

While commercial LPG supply to hotels and businesses has shown some improvement, the shortage of auto LPG continues to remain a concern, especially for daily commuters and transport operators.

State ministers Krishna Byre Gowda and Dinesh Gundu Rao have urged the Union government to intervene and resolve the issue without delay.

They said multiple communications have already been sent to New Delhi regarding the shortage, but there has been no clear response so far.

The ministers stressed that the auto gas disruption needs immediate attention, as it directly impacts livelihoods and urban mobility.

The shortage has also triggered unrest in parts of the state. In Haveri, a dispute at a gas agency reportedly turned violent when a customer visiting for KYC got into an argument with staff.

Both the customer and an employee sustained injuries and were admitted to a district hospital. Police have begun an inquiry into the incident, which is linked to gas distribution issues.

Officials indicate this is not a glitch but part of the new April 2026 supply protocol, under which a strict 26-day lock is being enforced in urban areas. The gap is calculated from the time of delivery – when the QR code is scanned at the doorstep – not from the booking date, which has caught many consumers off guard.
