In a tragic incident in Himachal Pradesh, 13 people lost their lives and two others were injured after a taxi was hit by a massive landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul – Spiti district on Friday (July 24).

On Friday, July 24, a massive landslide struck a taxi on Himachal Pradesh’s Udaipur-Killar road in the Lahaul-Spiti district, killing 13 people and injuring two, shortly after the route had reopened following an earlier landslide.

The accident took place on the Udaipur-Killar road near Kadu Nallah, where huge boulders crashed onto the vehicle, burying it under debris. Rescue teams, police personnel and district officials rushed to the spot and launched an operation to clear the debris and rescue those trapped inside the vehicle.

From the initial information from the officials the victims were travelling in Tata Sumo when the landslide struck without warning. Large rocks and debris fell onto the vehicle, crushing it completely and trapping the passengers inside.

The force of the landslide buried the taxi beneath heavy boulders, making rescue efforts difficult. One injured passenger was pulled out from the wreckage and taken to a nearby hospital, while another survivor also sustained injuries.

By the time rescue teams reached the accident site, 13 people had already lost their lives.

Road Had Just Reopened After Earlier Landslide

Officials stated that the Udaipur – Killar road had remained shut on Thursday night due to a landslide earlier, due to which the passengers stayed overnight in Tindi village.

It was after the authorities reopened the route on Friday, the group resumed its journey towards Pangi Valley, that however ended with another landslide crushing the taxi under falling rocks.

Authorities said the rescue operation continued even after the initial recovery efforts to ensure no one remained trapped beneath the debris.

Victims Believed To Be From Pangi Valley

Informing that the deceased identity is being verified and according to the preliminary information most of the passengers were the residents of Himachal Pradesh’s Pangi Valley. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation, while police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
